Here's the sneak peak of the month for our expanding bridal hair accessory collection at Simplee Luxx on Etsy. I love the messy updos for these headbands which add a couture vibe to them .

Bridal Headband Collection 2013 by Simplee Luxx on Etsy

As I previously stated in my other posts, we are working on expanding our bridal hair accessory collection. So far its been a real joy to continually challenge myself as an artist and explore different design concepts. Here's a sneak peak of our embellished headbands for our Bridal Collection in 2013.

The first picture is of a rhinestone lace embellished headband that captures bohemian styled accessories. It is a romance style for free spirited brides. The second is a leaf headband for teens that has a sweet and relaxed style. At the current moment, I am working on more intricate designs and will post them in the coming weeks due to the significant labor each one takes. Can't wait to share them with our lovely brides !

My B- Day and Ryan Started the fire

Today was my B-day. As I always do, I decided to take a picture of the b-day cake. Forgive me for the dark photos, I took them late at night. There is nothing like a girly birthday : )

I'm still searching for some diy photo studio tutorials. So, here a couple that seem reasonable. Lately, I'm been using a large white sheet on a clothesline but have yet to master the lighting. Hopely, one these tutorials work for me or for you.

The blog : Please excuse me while I clean my lens has a DIY Garage Studio for $33. Sounds really affordable compared to the $200 to $300 or more studios sold online.

Here's another idea from flicker's Johnathan: DIY Home Portrait Studio . I could not show a photo here since it's copyright protected so I just linked it instead.

It's a perfect example on how to setup the lighting and umbrellas. It seems that depending your space and equipment you may have to adjust the lighting. Take a full body picture of a small children appears to require less space unlike a adult which you will need more background space. Now, for photos of just your face not as much. I'll give these a try during the weekend and hopefully I don't start a fire : ) That would be epic ! The tv show : The Office comes to mind. Specifically, the episode where the new intern Ryan stared a fire in the office with the micowave and the office had to evacuate the building.  His co-worker, Dwight kept singing Ryan started the fire which was hilarious.

Behind the scenes of our spring bridal collection 2013

After a year of designing hair accessories for Simplee Luxx on Etsy, I wanted to create something special. I decided to create bridal accessories and sparkly pieces after a some customers wore our accessories for their weddings, special occasions or as photo props.  After three months, I have finally created bridal quality items and even bridal silk flowers. The story behind the silk flowers was epic. Those flowers themselves have cost me blood, sweat, and tears : ) Not entirely,  just a couple of burns and bandages but completely worth it ! In the upcoming months, I'll be creating more original pieces and will post pics to this blog. It has been a while since I last blogged.

The best gift of all

Monday was my b-day ! Which brings to this blog post. When we were small birthdays and holidays used to be about the gifts however as you grow older our mindsets change. We grow wiser and realize that what matters the most is someone's time. My sister gave the best gift of all time. Normally she is working late juggling between her full time job and a another part time job. However, she requested to the evening off. The best gift off all apart of finding in the mail my diploma on my birthday. Four and half years of late nights, anxiety,  and hard work finally paid off.  My sister surprised me with a 6 1/2 pound cake filled with candles. 6 1/2 pounds ! Insane ! Here's the picture of the enormous cake. It was so beautiful I had to post the picture.

DIY facial steam

Facial at the spa are costly but effective to maintain great and healthy skin. Facial steams are a great alternative to the hefty price tags of spa facials. When done once a week you will see an improvement in your skin’s texture and reduce clogged pores. I have done this for a couple of years now and have maintained clear skin by doing this. Even if not done weekly you will still see some results.

Step 1.
Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil in a pot.
Step 2
Add your selected herbal mixture to the boiling water, cover, and then turn off the heat.
For dry skin : try rose or chamomile
For normal skin: try rose or lavender
For oily skin: try rosemary or sage
For dull or acne prone skin : try comfrey
* note even if you do not have any of these ingredients a simple facial steam without herbs will still open up your pores.
Step 3:
Let the water cool for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, uncover the pot, stir the mixture , and completely remove the pot from your stove.

Step 4:
Place the pot in a table that will allow you to sit and place your face above it about 9 inches it. Place a large towel over head and let the towel hang down around the pot in order to let it catch some of water steam or vapor. Keeping a safe and comfortable distance between your and pot, try to stay under the towel as long as you comfortably can. What I do is stay approximately a minute under the towel, take a break, and put the towel over my head once again. I do this about four to five times, in order to really open up my pores.
Step 5:
Remove your face from the pot and your done !
Either using a store purchased facial scrub or one I make at home. I then use a circular motion to cleanse my face. Lastly I rinse my face with cool water to close my pores. Some makeup artist use icy cold water in order to really tighten their pores. I use this technique only in the warmer months.
DIY facial scrub:
Make a thick paste using cornmeal and water. Or you can make a thick paste using brown sugar and honey. Make sure not overscrub your skin since this can cause irritation.
Step 6
Do not forget to use moisturizer! This is a very important step since your skin has undergone serious cleansing and you need to bring back moisture.
Hope your try this facial steam idea and enjoy pampering yourself :)
* note some people may experience a slight itching sensation after the first facial steam. This is absolutely normal. When your steam your skin reacts to increased circulation. Increasing the circulation will help give you a nature glow to your skin. After doing a couple of facial steam you will notice that this itching sensation will disappear.
